Day 3

This morning we started off with a two mile walk.  Mom, Dad, and I went with Dad's friend Mike and his kids, Maggie and Fergus.  Maggie and Fergus are fur kids like me.  We had lots of fun and got to smell all kinds of great things.  I got the rest of the day off and Mom will tell you about what she and Dad did with Mike and his wife Sheena.

Doolin

After getting Doolin safely settled in the RV, we left Los Gatos and headed toward Sausalito, across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco.  After a stop at the view point and a photo op with a piece of the cable used on the bridge, we went across to Sausalito.  Mike keeps his boat there.  It's 42' Tartan sailboat with a racing hull and cruiser interior.  With just the jib, at one point we were cruising 9.5 knots.  That's REALLY FAST for a sailboat!!!  At times we had as much as 30 degrees of heel (when the boat leans to the side from the wind in the sail) and I didn't even get sick.

There was a little fog over the bridge when this photo was taken, but by the time we were out on the water, it cleared up and we had a beautiful afternoon.  We were on the water for about four hours.  We left the harbor, went out to the Golden Gate bridge, then across the bay for a close up look at the city from the water.  We went down to the Bay Bridge (the one that goes to Oakland), then turned around, along the back side of Alcatraz, then through "the Slot" between Alcatraz and Angel Island.  The Slot is in the direct line of the wind that comes in  through the gate and across the Bay.  Some of the strongest wind on the bay.  It was a fantastic afternoon.  Many thanks to Mike and Sheena for taking us out.
