Day 1 & 2

Day 1 - We were all excited to get going.  Mom and Dad got up at 4:30 am.  I decided that they were serious and reluctantly got out of my bed about 5 to go outside.  We had everything in the Motor Home and were on our way about 7 am.  Saturday was mostly driving.  We covered 550 miles.  When we crossed into California a little after 5 pm, we stopped at Visitor Information.  We got a fantastic recommendation for a campground.  We stayed at Siskiyou Lake Camp Park.

I give it a four paws.  It's on the shores of Lake Siskiyou, just outside of Mt Shasta, CA.  The campsites are in the woods.  We packed some wine, meats and cheese, and crackers into the backpack and grabbed the lawn chairs to go down to the beach.  We watched the sunset on Mt Shasta and I got this picture of Mom and Dad.  Since the Mountain is still covered in snow this time of year, the setting sun turned it spectacular shades of pink.

Day 2 - After a little more exploration of the park, we got back on the road again.  Our first stop was Redding, CA.  We'd read about The Sundial Bridge and decided to take a look.  Much to our delight, there is an Arboretum and Garden on the banks of the Sacramento River, next to the bridge.  Even better, the Arboretum encourages you to bring your dog.  They even had a water fountain for me!  I needed it.  It was well over 80 degrees in Redding.  I really should have given more thought to my wardrobe.

After some exploration in Redding, we were back on the road, because we needed to get to Los Gatos, CA (just south of San Francisco) by Sunday evening.  We'd been invited to visit one of Dad's colleagues who lives in  Los Gatos.  Why it was important to be there by Sunday night will come in my next post.
